Bioenergetics is the study of energy systems and their role in health and wellbeing. It’s been studied globally for more than 70 years, and The BERG F looks to advance this knowledge by funding Bioenergetics research that can be used to support community health and wellness.

The BERG F is a UK-based, internationally connected research social enterprise which is dedicated to improving the understanding of how lifestyle and environment factors affect the mitochondrial pathways linked to chronic inflammation and increased risk of chronic illnesses.

Within communities, BERG F funded research focuses upon unravelling some of the mysteries surrounding how these health aspects are interrelated; providing insights and metrics for stakeholders in the development and implementation of health-environment policies based on the latest scientific evidence, and informing policy that promotes prevention and treatment of diseases, increasing disability-free years and reducing the burden on healthcare systems.

As a Social Enterprise, their social purpose is to fund research and find evidence-based solutions which reduces health inequalities across communities, regions and countries.

UK community health, what we know...

According to the Office for National Statistics (ONS), healthspan comprises Healthy life expectancy (HLE) and Disability-free life expectancy (DFLE).

HLE is an estimate of the number of years lived in “Very good” or “Good” general health, while DFLE is an estimate of the number of years lived without a long-lasting physical or mental health condition that limits daily activities. Both these metrics are decreasing across the U.K.

Recently published information states that in the 1950s, the UK had one of the longest life expectancies in the world, ranking seventh globally behind countries such as Denmark, Norway and Sweden, but in 2021 the UK was ranked 29th.

The NHS in the UK, procures billions in goods and services from thousands of small, medium and large suppliers. Each supplier is required to evidence a social value return on this procurement; it's known as their social value.

Pluggin provides public sector suppliers with THREE ways to develop social value through The BERG F:

We consolidate support from suppliers regionally, connecting them all into The BERG F to "crowd-sponsor" research on the ground.

This is an easy way for any marketing or sales team to connect-into ongoing research, their involvement is visible and evident to NHS procurement, local residents and across the region.

Build Research Activity

We connect a supplier with The BERG F to directly sponsor a PhD candidate to research within an existing or new region.

This enables marketing or sales teams to mobilise research activity, their brand is publicly linked to ongoing findings and updates into NHS procurement, local residents and nationally.

Join Forces with The BERG F

We strategically connect large suppliers with The BERG F in order to scale the infrastructure of the social enterprise within the UK.

This establishes a unique supplier commitment to long-term research which drives health impact, publicly demonstrating this to NHS procurement, UK residents and the world.
