Building Safer Communities Together (BSCT) is a UK ecosystem approach regionally connecting business social value into building healthier, safer and more resilient communities.

Regionally connecting business into proven community-impact activities transforming communities.

BSCT regionally consolidates business social value to support proven community activities provided by hundreds of established charities & social enterprises. These locally trusted and expert providers of programmes are already delivering impact, so BSCT is there to sustain and grow these vital provisions for the long-term.

Regionally supporting hundreds of established community providers & programmes.

Regionally supporting 41 UK Crime Commissioners & a network of 21 strategic units.

An Impact Ecosystem!

The Pluggin ecosystem provides the UK environment for BSCT to support communities; helping businesses regionally connect with community-led activities.

This is a communities-led environment where charities & social enterprises operate with businesses in real-time - providing a unique view of WHERE & HOW businesses are contributing to the long-term needs of UK communities.

Strategic Support!

BSCT is a strategic link-up within regions, aligning police and fire chiefs, LGA and NHS chief execs, police & crime commissioners and the lord lieutenants. Everyone strategically supporting the mission for building Healthier, Safer and more Resilient Communities.

Engaging Residents!

BSCT sets-out to regionally engage residents to build their awareness and trust in impact being achieved by their local charities & social enterprises.

A dedicated, ongoing approach to capture insights and stories of the change taking place, shared out through social and local media channels.

Public procurement plays a central role!

We spent 2 years collaborating with public procurement leaders to adapt the ecosystem for BSCT - to harness millions in supplier social value commitments locked within £379 billion of annual public spending on goods and services.

BSCT helps elected and appointed officials lead their procurement bodies to regionally harness this supplier social value into building healthier, safer and more resilient communities - a social value Theme already adopted across public procurement.

BSCT automated Social Purchase Order (SPO)...

BSCT uses the Pluggin SPO system which automates and tracks where businesses connect with and make a financial contributions to one or many charities & social enterprises.

BSCT publishes metrics promoting (by supplier and region) the SPO regional results into public procurement, and wider into community audiences.

Piloted in the Thames Valley region.

Thames Valley Police procurement and Crown Commercial Service played a key role in how social value can drive BSCT.

In Spring 2023, BSCT was deployed into the Thames Valley where in just 12 weeks the ecosystem recorded £121k of Thames Valley business social value contributions into charities & social enterprises within BSCT.

The UK Criminal Justice System plays a role too.

At an annual cost to the taxpayer of £8 billion, we wanted prevention to be a focus from those operating within the Criminal Justice System.

This sees us engaging legal aid firms and the private operators of prisons, custody services and probation services.

The mission is simple...

Everyone focused upon the regional process for Building Safer Communities Together across the UK.

From appointed to elected officials, to procurement teams and their suppliers everyone can join BSCT and play a role:

Police, Fire & Rescue and HMPPS Leadership

Commissioners & Lord Lieutenancy
